New York has a way of keeping us in motion—always rushing about, moving fast, in and out, late for the subway-work and struggling to get that perfect hot Java oat milk French Vanilla Latte.
But sometimes the sweetest moments are the ones where we pause, look up, and actually connect. For me, that often happens at my neighborhood spot, Le Café Coffee in Hell’s Kitchen.
My favorite barista there is more than the keeper of my daily latte fix—she’s my Spanish teacher and also a talented makeup artist. Recently, I decided to support her gifts beyond the coffee counter. We set up outside of our sunlit veranda, where she applied a fresh set of lashes for me. She even surprised me with a thoughtful gift: Selena Gomez’s mascara. My lashes came out soft, natural, and light—but the beauty was in so much more than the result.
What mattered most was the exchange. One woman in her twenties, another approaching fifty-five, meeting in a moment of trust and shared energy. There’s something deeply human about touch—whether it’s in a massage, a facial, or even a swipe of mascara. It reminds us we belong to one another. We’re ONE
That day wasn’t just about lashes. It was about showing up for each other—me honoring her artistry, her offering her light in return. These are the bridges we build across generations, in the everyday places we least expect.
Coffee may have brought us together, but connection and a pretty pallet of beautiful colors of makeup- lipsticks and lashes is what keeps us coming back.
